Tavira
ligt aan de monding van de rivier de Ségua omringd door de
restanten van de stadswal gebouwd door Koning Dinis. Een
aarbeving in 1755 vernietigde bijna het hele stadje. Tavira was
een belangrijk centrum voor de tonijn visserij. Het
uitgestrekte zandstrand van Tavira (Ilha de Tavira) is alleen
per boot te bereiken.Mocht u geinterresseerd zijn in kerken dan
kunt u hier uw hart ophalen, het plaatsje heeft er maar liefst
37!. |

Tavira
Pour les amateurs d'églises, cette
cité constitue une véritable bénédiction puisque pas moins de
32 églises et chapelles y sont recensées, et ce, pour une
population d'à peine 7 000 habitants. Toutefois, quel que soit
votre intérêt pour les «choses saintes», ne manquez pas de
débuter votre visite par une balade sur les quais qui longent
le Rio Gilão. |

TAVIRA is a lovely old town which
stands on either side of the river Gilão. Its two halves are
connected by a seven arched Roman bridge. A small, medieval
castle on a low hill in the centre of the town presides over
all.
Next to the castle is the Church
of Santa Maria do Castelo, which contains the tomb of the
town's liberator during the 13th century Christian reconquest,

Quinta in Tavira
In der für Algarve so charakteristischen Landschaft, zwischen
Gebirge und Meer, gelegen. Ein rustikales Haus innerhalb eines
ländlichen Anwesens mit Obstbäumen, Pinien und Eukalyptus. Die
zugehörigen Landwirtschaftsgebäude wurden wieder hergestellt
und bilden Wohneinheiten, die den typischen Baustil der Gegend
aufweisen. |

Am Ufer des Rio Gilão
Die geteilteStadt am Rio Gilão konnte sich den einmaligen Charme
eines typischen Algarve-Ortes bewahren. Links und rechts des
Ufers reihen sich noble Häuser, zur Flussmündung hin dümpeln
ein paar Fischerboote. Trotz der exquisiten Lage vor dem langen
Strand der "Ilha de Tavira" geht es in dem 10.000-Seelen
Städtchen besinnlich und ruhig zu. Offenbar der
Modernisierungswut zum Trotz. |

Anfahrt
- Auf der Autobahn
die Abfahrt Tavira nehmen und in Richtung Tavira fahren. Am
Kreisverkehr Richtung Zentrum abfahren. Im Zentrum an der alten
Markthalle über die Behelfsbrucke. Hinter der Brücke 2. Straße
rechts. An der Gabelung links. |

Insbesondere Nostalgiker
kommen in der gemütlichen Kleinstadt auf ihre Kosten. Kaum 40
Kilometer östlich von Faro, schläft die Hafenstadt Tavira den
