We wanted to get away from the hotels and chose
Tavira, a small town about 30 km
away from Faro to the East. In fact it's about half way to the
Spanish border. The place we stayed in was on the outskirts of
the town, but it was still possible to walk down into the town
at night for a meal.
The town itself is of Roman origin and the Rio Gilao flows
through the centre. There are two bridges that cross the river,
one of these is particularly attractive, being light at night.
It was a magnificent sight to watch the sun go down, the sky
darken and the light up bridge become the central attraction of
the town. |
