Tavira
leżąca po obu brzegach rzeki Gilăo i uważana za
najpiękniejsze miasto w Algarve, pełna jest zabytkowych
kościołów i ładnych domów.
Tavira powstała ok . 400 r p.n.e, natomiast największy jej rozkwit
przypadł na XVI - XVIII w, z którego to okresu pochodzi
większość zabudowań dworskich i kościelnych. Ruiny murów zamku
Maurów (Castelo dos Mouros) są doskonałym punktem
widokowym na dachy 37 kościołow i na charakterystyczne dla
architektury Taviry czterospadowe dachy zw. Dachami Czterech Wód
(Telhados de Quatro Aguas), ułatwiające spływanie deszczu
podczas nagłych i gwałtownych ulew. |
