Freguesia de Santa Luzia
A primeira construção que existiu na área da actual povoação
de Santa Luzia foi a Ermida, que deu lugar, posteriormente, à
actual igreja. O templo foi descrito por Frei João de S. José,
em 1577 na Corografia do Reino do Algarve,(...)
Fontes documentais permitem concluir que a Ermida deverá ter
sido edificada entre 1511 e 1577.(...)

povoação de St.ª Luzia, composta de 40 a 50 cabanas de junco, cujos pobres moradores se empregão na pesca

Tavira Nearby Locations
Near to Tavira isCabanas and Pedras del Rey, both small beachfront
villages catering specifically for the tourist. In the small village of Luz de Tavira there is one of the finest
examples of Manueline craftsmanship around the southern door of the Parish Church. Santa Luzia gets
its name from a shipwrecked Italian effigy of the Virgin Mary and is a very small unspoilt village with a fort. Near to
the Torre de Ares there is the remains of a Roman villa.
To the east of Tavira and overlooking the sea is the still original traditional village of Cacela-a-Velha used
by the Phoenicians and later becoming the possession of the Knights of Santiago in 1240. |

development, is a centre of octopus fishing, as can be seen
from the heaps of numbered earthenware pots on the quayside.
When placed on the sandy seabed, inquisitive octopuses can't
resist crawling into them, but can't find their way out. |

Um cantinho à beira da Ria Formosa, nitidamente voltado para as artes da pesca é

Santa Luzia, Capital do Polvo
Lava-se limpa-se o polvo, corta-se em bocados regulares.
Entretanto, pica-se a cebola e os alhos bastante finos, deita-se azeite e um pouco
de óleo num tacho, deixano aquecer um pouco.
Juntam-se os alhos e a cebola, deixando refogar. (...)
